Endodontics involves the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the dental pulp and resultant pathology in the surrounding bone. The purpose of endodontic treatment is to eliminate diseased pulp tissue and allow a structurally sound tooth to be retained in the dental arch. Endodontic (root canal) treatment may include non-surgical and surgical modalities. The cause of the pathologies listed above can be physical trauma as in a motor vehicle accident incident.
